A final written warning is the last formal step in most progressive-discipline policies before termination. It documents a performance or conduct issue, states what must improve, and warns that the next step may be firing. It is an internal HR document – it does not, by itself, change your legal employment status. In an at-will state, an employer is not even required to issue one before letting you go.
